Information for Foundations

HigherEd.org has conducted research projects funded wholly or in part by the Lumina Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and World Bank. We are also available to prepare white papers and evaluate costing tools for various purposes, dealing with topics of cost, knowledge management, postsecondary data systems, and leveraging new models for virtual universities. Some examples of recent projects include:

The Lumina Foundation

The Lumina Foundation work has focused on a National Study of Noncredit Course Activities and a study of instructional course costs as they effect nontraditional learners. The Mellon Foundation research involved developed a costing model that compared online and traditional courses at George Mason University.

The World Bank

HigherEd.org has provided consulting services to the World Bank to help it evaluate a costing tool and technology implications. It has also prepared a series of white papers about technology and distance learning for the Bank, with a focus on Instructional and Computer Technologies (ICTs) for Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Mellon Foundation

When its vendor delayed delivery of the web version of its 2005 Carnegie Classification scheme in time for public review and comment, Alex McCormick and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching contacted HigherEd.org to see whether it could develop the online software for interim use. HigherEd.org was able to quickly create a separate web domain and complete software application for this complex, searchable site, which went live by the required project deadline. CFAT provided the design and graphics and HigherEd.org created the ASP code and SQL Server database format. Since December, 2005, the site has undergone additional upgrades and changes to respond to user needs and changes in the classification. It will be taken down when the vendor delivers its final version of the site.
