Information for Institutions

HigherEd.org is in a unique position to help institutions understand how to leverage IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) and NSF (National Science Foundation) peer comparison data, as well as other national datasets, for planning needs.

Our staff have trained many hundreds of institutional researchers, planners, and assessment staff and devloped web-based tools for handling the overload and onslaught of data requests.

In particular, our expertise in costing models is particularly relevant as institutions try to provide leadership in technology and virtual university models. Work funded by the Mellon Foundation and the Lumina Foundation, along with the World Bank, suggests best and effective practices for costing technology solutions. HigherEd.org is excited about helping institutions incorporate this shared vision for accountability and planning.

Past projects involved the design, development, and maintenance of the GMU Data Warehouse for George Mason University. This warehouse incorporated ColdFusion software and SQL Server and provided student, enrollment planning, course, human resources, space, classroom utilization, and finance data from extracts updated daily, weekly, and each semester as needed.

A series of applications have been developed for institutions to conduct environmental scanning, with a focus on attention management as a key principle of knowledge management (KM).
