Spring 2007 Beginning Student Records

The Beginning Student record captures basic student contact information, previous student GPA's, previous education, current teaching experience (if any), early field experiences, employment, and any institutionally defined fields. The Beginning record has changed based on feedback that users provided during the Fall 06 collection, and from interviews conducted in February, 2006. Here are some things to be aware of as you begin to prepare data for the Spring 2007 Beginning Student record submission.

1. The Beginning record now provides both month and year date fields to accomodate test data. The record no longer contains student self-report information, all of these questions have been moved to student surveys. Full time/Part time status is now collected. Licensure Programs have been replaced with Endorsement Areas.

2. We have documented the differences between the Fall 06 and the Spring 07 Beginning Record. Make sure you review the document to see this comparison.

3. Make a copy of what you entered during Fall. As these changes have been made, certain fields in the 2006 Beginning Student record will be modified to reflect the new TPA in order to standardize the system. Running an Export Data report will help you with this process.

As a rule, data should be provided for all fields. Some fields will not produce errors if they are blank to facilitate data entry by institutions that legitimately do not have that information. If you have too much missing data, you may be required to resubmit your file.
